Cu Chi is now considered a heroic district for its role in the anti \u2013 American war resistance during the Vietnam war. It is legendary for its over 220 km underground tunnel system and is a popular tourist site for both Vietnamese and foreigners.<\/p>\n<p>Along the way to Cu Chi from Ho Chi Minh city, we will pass by the scenic local countryside, where you might even spot ducks and buffalo cooling off in the river. You will find it hard to imagine the destruction and damage that once dominated the area, caused by bombing and mines when Cu Chi was \u201ca free target zone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After the tunnels, we\u2019ll stop for a lunch of local Vietnamese cuisine before heading back to Ho Chi Minh. Here, we\u2019ll visit the Reunification Palace, which was the former residence of the President of South Vietnam until the end of the war in April 1975, The Notre Dame cathedral, the General Post Office and the War Remnant Museum.<\/p>\n<p>17.30: The tour finishes. Enjoy the scenery and green rice paddies during the one and a half hour bus ride. Along the way, we will visit Vinh Trang pagoda, the biggest pagoda in the Mekong delta. Continue to My Tho, where we take a boat trip along the Mekong River, where you can see fish cages and floating houses on the river.<\/p>\n<p>The boat takes you to a small canal, escaping the hustle and bustle of the town. We disembark at a coconut island in Ben Tre and enjoy a walk around the village. Stop at a local family home to enjoy<\/p>\n<p>tropical fruit, taste the honey tea and honey wine and listen to Vietnamese traditional music performed by the villagers. Check out the coconut candy shop and learn how to make candy, and see handicrafts made from the coconuts.<\/p>\n<p>Take your time snapping photos and enjoy the natural scenery before we head to the local restaurant. Lunch is set with special Vietnamese food. Enjoy your lunch outside under the shade of the trees.
